Yang Dong Geun

dong-geun Yang Dong GeunIt’s very rare to find an actor with superb acting skills. My taste in films often does not agree with the public. I have no background in films, but I’m pretty firm in my belief of what a good film comprises of. My choice in watching a movie or a serial is greatly influenced by the cast. If my taste in a piece is unusual, I think that my taste in actors is more unusual. My favorite actor of all time is Jason Lee. Not so many elite moviegoers would even have him in their top-100.

I never compare actors to decide whether I like them or not. The uniqueness is a factor in deciding whether an artist is worthy of my time. Being natural onscreen is another. Yang Dong Geun is an actor of such degree. For starters, Yang is a Korean actor who starred in “Fighter In The Wind”, “Ruler Of Your Own World”, “Dr. Kkang” and “I Am Saem”.

Yang Dong Geun has a unique acting skills. His bipolar style can make you frown and make you laugh out loud the next second. His appearance typecasts his roles, but he can play any and he has proven that in “I Am Saem”. His actions shows as if he’s suppressing his emotions and ready to explode which makes you anticipate for something. I’ve always had this feeling in every project he’s made.

At first glance, an audience wouldn’t want to appoint their time in watching Yang Dong Geun’s work because at first impression, he looks like a joke. I’ve experienced that, but once you enter his realm, you’ll find one of the better actors you’ll ever encounter.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a fan of his music.

Dreams (Bi-Mong)

I’m so excited for this Korean film to come out on torrent (oopps!) Starring the two of my most favored actors — Joe O-dagiri (Shinobi) and Lee Na Young (Somebody Special), I have to see the film. The big screen release is early October, so a subtitled DVD quality should be out early next year. This will be another tear-jerker and depressing movie, but it’s the substance that matters including the excellent acting that I will be expecting from the two. This will be the second O-dagiri piece I’ll be seeing and it’s been a while since Lee made a project. If you want to know why I’m expecting the best of this, check the stream below.

Astig Shirt Co.

regla-day Astig Shirt Co.

It’s not a secret that I’m a sucker for cool t-shirts. I visit Threadless weekly for new killer designs that are up for purchase. Most of the time I can’t buy because I can’t choose. I have TVJ shirts that I can find when I go home to the Philippines or have my aunt buy if she finds any. The most recent shirt order I had were Francis M’s 3 Stars & A Sun FMCC shirts. Not the best fabric, but it’s very Pinoy. I received a newsletter from Divisoria and in that newsletter, they were advertising t-shirts produced by ASTIGSHIRTCO. and I found them really cool designs. My favorite so far is the image I’m attaching with this entry. It’s flagrantly offensive, but a brave design.

El Fin de Semana

The weekend was dismal. Rain was pouring most of the time, but that didn’t ruin my fin de semana. I finally got a new pair of jeans. The only “decent” pair I had is no longer decent, so I had to buy a new pair. I also went to see Kung Fu Panda which I rate 2.5 stars out of 5. I was thinking of checking out The Incredible Hulk but I opted out at the last minute. I also had a couple of rounds inside a batting cage. I’m kind of getting a hang of hitting them softballs. I kind of bruised my ring finger because I was wearing a ring while hitting. It’s not a good idea. I’ve been hitting the balls where I want them, but I wasn’t getting strikes and that’s the downside of the rounds I had. I wasn’t also able to watch the performances of the boys from Pinoy Idol because the weather wasn’t so good that we lost all satellite signal. I was really looking forward to the performances because I saw a couple of good ones from the girls. I hope I can find streams online.

I’m on the ferry this early because I have to change router at work. I hope it’s successful so that I can do other things. It’ll be a busy week for me because I’ll be out of the country in the next week. Once successful, I will immediately post a documentation of the steps I took for my own perusal.

Dyesebel Mermaids

I saw the episode of All Star K! last night featuring the mermaids of GMA’s latest series Dyesebel. They were a nice looking bunch save Vaness and Sheena. Who caught my attention? It wasn’t Kilantang or Jaya. They were Rea Nakpil, Ava Jugueta, Sachi Sanders and Precious Adona. The latter two I need more information, so fill me in anyone. I enjoyed the voices of Ava, Rea and Sachi. I don’t care if they can act…they caught my attention damnit!

# Start digression

I enjoyed the opening of Eat Bulaga! on Saturday. They had the hosts as a complete band: Pia (keyboards), Michael V (drums & percussions), Lougee (bass), Julia & Aiza (guitars), Tito & Vic (guitars) and Joey singing along with everyone. The entry was actually to introduce the latest competition that the show will be undertaking which they call E-Banda. The contest is for college bands which don’t have recording contracts yet. Tito is so serious when playing his guitar. In my knowledge, Tito is the producer amongst the trio (VST & Company = Vicente Sotto III & Company), Vic makes the melody and Joey for the lyrics. What I’m saying is that Tito knows his shit :)

He Was A Quiet Man

I can’t let an entry pass without writing about “He Was A Quiet Man”, a psychological film from Frank A. Cappello starring Christian Slater, Elisha Cuthbert, and William H. Macy. The film is about the resistance of the weak against the bullies. Bob Maconel (Slater) is an employee who keeps a six shooter in his drawer, but never had the right timing to cause an onslaught on his six predetermined victims until one day when a co-worker did it and he became a hero after killing the murderer. This is where I got lost because the ending showed that it was him who did the killing.

I think the movie failed me, however, Slater’s acting was super-excellent. I’m a big fan of Christian Slater, but he’s really grown into a better actor. Recently I also saw Anthony Hopkins’ mind boggling “Slipstream” and Slater also played a semi-psycho. If “Quiet Man” had more substance, Slater would have been a good candidate for an Oscar. I agree with the critics’ statements about Christian Slater in this movie. This is by far the best acting he’s ever done.
