It’s very rare to find an actor with superb acting skills. My taste in films often does not agree with the public. I have no background in films, but I’m pretty firm in my belief of what a good film comprises of. My choice in watching a movie or a serial is greatly influenced by the cast. If my taste in a piece is unusual, I think that my taste in actors is more unusual. My favorite actor of all time is Jason Lee. Not so many elite moviegoers would even have him in their top-100. I was on the bus today and at a stop, a woman at around her 50s climbed the bus. The bus isn’t full, just a loose. The woman didn’t walk all the way to the back, instead she stood in front of me, hoping to get a seat because there’s an empty seat, but another man’s things are on it. The man just took a glance at her and did not do anything. He’s a black man. The man just went along with what he was doing and finally gathered his things as he’s nearing his stop. The woman, whom I suspect is Filipino and I can only describe as someone who has the attitude and demeanor of a Spaniard. So if you’re a Filipino reading this, quickly gather your thoughts on what a Kastila is like for a moment. The woman took the seat after the man took everything off of it. (more…)
Fashionista Ka Pa Rin!

A few years ago watching people on Filipino TV wearing parkas bothered me. The country is very hot, yet people wore warm clothings. Nowadays with all the typhoons hitting the nation, I’m excusing such display. However, what bothers me now is the new trend that artists are starting in Philippine showbiz. They are now wearing scarves and shawls.
How cold is it in the Philippines for these “fashionista wannabees” to be wearing scarves and shawls? I strongly believe that fashion compliments the season. Aren’t these people scorching with scarves tightly bundled on their necks? I blame Korean Drama for this trend, but it makes sense in Korea because it’s cold there. Not in the Philippines. Do these people know that every time foreigners see them on TV they are laughing because of their so called “fashion” sense?

Somebody Special

Tonight, before going to bed I thought I’d post an entry on a very interesting Korean film I just saw. It’s called Somebody Special. It’s a romantic comedy about a baseball player trying to find the meaning of love and a girl who has been in love with him since they were young. The story does not interest me, rather it’s the humor. Though many have said that romance and comedy blended really well in the movie (and I agree), the humor has the upperhand. It’s not a simple funny humor, rather it’s a laugh-out-loud humor delivered subtly yet obvious. Finally a paradox from me.
I found this film while searching for Lee Na Young’s works. I like Na Young’s acting because she’s eccentric. She’s vulnerable, yet strong and I think she’s the only actress who can do what she does with her tongue (no malicious intent).
