While I was watching the opening for Eat Bulaga! today, I was reminded of my high school days back in the Philippines. Back then, we had a subject wherein we did skits every Fridays on a given topic. It’s a civics class, so the topics relate to morals and ethics. But that’s not the point of this entry.
How did EB’s opening remind me of those years? Well, for me Wally Bayola of the duo Jose & Wally is really funny and talented, but for the love of __the_name_of_your_Almighty__ he needs to take his assignments seriously. Today, he & Jose performed together with Jeepney Joyride and I swear Wally was just moving his lips not knowing the lyrics of the song. It’s not the first time either. Every time he sings he doesn’t know the lyrics of the song. It’s a live band so there’s no way he can lip-sync. In dancing, I know he’s good at it, but it seems he never practices the steps. In skits, he forgets what he’s supposed to do. It’s been going on for years and this really makes his talent go to waste. And I like him over Jose.
Still how did it remind me of those years? When we’re doing our skits, we often forget our lines and reminding me of those years is just fascinating. It was just like yesterday and now we are all over the world with some of us having families already. It’s amazing how time goes and reminds us of what happened. We did plenty in those years. We did a concert using primitive instruments which our ancestors used way back before the Spaniards colonized us. I never had that experience when I went to high school in New York. I even joined a pageant in my Freshmen year. We only had about 12 boys in our section and we all had to join or else we fail. Now that I think of it, if I had the knowledge I have now, I would have gotten out of that show easily. I hope this entry doesn’t remind someone to search their albums for pictures of the event because it will be a freakin’ nightmare for all of us.
What’s the moral of my story? If you are given a task, be prepared. If you are forced to do extra-curricular activities and is threatened to be failed if you did not join, sue them. That’s why it’s called extra-curricular because it’s not mandatory – not part of the curriculum. Everytime I remember that event, it drives me nuts. I can still remember my outfit, my talent, etc. I’m pathetic as always.

Many portable gadgets in the past few years have been coming out that are multi-purpose. Everyone seems to want everything in their cellphones now. While I was with my girlfriend, she remarked that she won’t buy a digital camera because her cellphone already has enough mega pixels to capture the moments. I have no comment on that remark, but it did inspire this entry.
I admit I have a Treo, but that was because of a necessity when my sister offered it to me. I was addicted then and still is to internet radio and with that device only can I listen while away from my high-speed internet. I regret the two-year contract because now I just want a simple phone. As a matter of fact, I have an LG KG320 for my roaming Smart Buddy and I’m loving it. The only thing I don’t like about it is that it doesn’t have memory expansion. I’d love to save more messages, y’know.
I have nothing against iPhones or Nokia N-Series. Personally and professionally speaking, by throwing everything in one hood, compromises were definitely made and they aren’t pretty I’m sure. I have a fixation for quality and the compromises in these devices are definitely not quality, but quantity of functionalities. I won’t rely on a cellphone to capture a moment in my life. It can capture, but not at a better quality that let’s say a Nikon digital camera can. All my digital pictures are kept in their original format and I only edit copies. If you have been around this web site, you’d realize that I have a habit of backing up everything. Later on, I want to get back on these photographs and scan every pixel of it. Especially if I’m taking a photograph of my love one. I will visit every corner of that snapshot and discover many things about her. It’s an obsession,I know.
I hate listening to music from my Treo. For one, you can’t find a decent headset. Second, the phone function would sometimes not work and it’s obvious why – because everything is in a series circuit; you just wouldn’t know what’s going to happen. I’m pretty sure these shortcomings applies also to other multi-purpose cellphones. Also I hate it every time my phone rings, my music stops and it’s worst if I’m in the mood with the music.
I know that these devices serve a single purpose, and that’s to carry only one while having everything. I guess it all depends on the person. I’d rather carry a cellphone, an mp3 player, a camera, and a laptop. At least if one malfunctions, I still can use the others. If I run out of battery for my cellphone, I can still listen to my music and take pictures. If my laptop crashes, I still have my pictures from my camera, my music in my mp3 player, and my contacts in my cellphone memory. Call my primitive, but think about it.

Tonight, before going to bed I thought I’d post an entry on a very interesting Korean film I just saw. It’s called Somebody Special. It’s a romantic comedy about a baseball player trying to find the meaning of love and a girl who has been in love with him since they were young. The story does not interest me, rather it’s the humor. Though many have said that romance and comedy blended really well in the movie (and I agree), the humor has the upperhand. It’s not a simple funny humor, rather it’s a laugh-out-loud humor delivered subtly yet obvious. Finally a paradox from me.
I found this film while searching for Lee Na Young’s works. I like Na Young’s acting because she’s eccentric. She’s vulnerable, yet strong and I think she’s the only actress who can do what she does with her tongue (no malicious intent).

Everex has unveiled an Eee PC competitor with its CloudBook. Scheduled to be available at Walmart.com only starting January 25, 2008 at an affordable $399. This is the same price as my Eee PC 4G, except that it has better specifications. The CloudBook also weighs 2lbs with a 9-inch screen and has 9 times more of gigabyte storage space than my 4G. It is pre-installed with gOS which I think rocks.
I’m a little disappointed that I just bought an Eee PC and a new interesting machine cos out. I’ll have to wait for reviews, maybe for the next generation of CloudBook before I decide to get my hands on it.

I did three things tonight. In order of execution: (1) archive previous blogs since 2001, (2) backup old websites and folders from the server, and (3) deleted backed up sites and folders from the server. What a relief. Now when editing I don’t have to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the pile. It also is a relief that my previous blog posts were archived neatly in one single site.
I was going through some of my entries while archiving and it brings back memories. It seems I’m very active blogging during summertime. I hope you enjoy my past thoughts as much as I do. I will find time to edit each one of them.
