Social Diseases: Conditional Relationships
24 Jan
Society is a disease. It poisons natural thought process, thus influencing the body pain and suffering more often than not. Its establishment of conventions and illusive rules hinder human’s natural instincts from execution. The feeling of being not able to act the way you want to is suffocating and demoralizing.
Society is simply a network running in a system. Obviously, that system is imperfect because a person like me exists (the anomaly). Did I just remind everyone of The Matrix? Slightly. It is indeed a movie splurged with massive amount of colliding philosophical ideas. Before I get off topic, conditional relationship is one way to interconnect each individual within the system.
Conditional relationship is a relationship created between two or more people. It is not inborn. It is famously known as romantic relationship. I categorize it to be conditional because a condition must pre-exist before the relationship is created and maintained. Once a condition is not met, the relationship is not created or if it is violated, the relationship is broken. Continuity in preserving the condition is the main goal for this relationship more than the relationship itself.
How is a conditional relationship developed? There are many ways to create such connection. Many have coined witty sentences to describe or relate a development of romance. The latest I’ve read (from Joanna’s YM status) was about colliding personalities creating a chemical reaction that eventually led to a formation of one (a connection of many is considerably singular) entity. Now that sounds scientifically cool, but a substance can still be broken up into its original state (into elements) in degraded quality.
In a romantic relationship, at least one side must work on preserving the relationship. That is not easy as well as ineffective. One must sacrifice to make the other happy. In my small little world, sacrifice is a no no. Thus, this relationship is a disease to mankind. Since it is not inborn, it can be avoided and can be severed. It is the easiest phase in man’s journey to complete detachment. This ad hoc connection is the easiest to disconnect.

This is a funny post :D
The feeling of being not able to act the way you want to is suffocating and demoralizing. – Being expected to act within a standard is also suffocating. Pareho lang ata yun ah :-/
On romantic relationships, I learned from my previous one that it’s important to preserve your own personality and independence to be fulfilled in the relationship. Can’t wait for the other one to make you happy, make yourself happy first. Luma na rin to hehehe.
Methinks that an ideal relationship would be being with a person because it makes you happy-er, not being with the person to make you or the other person happy. Gulo ‘ata.
Society (the system) is the only one that has standards – that is a boundary on a person’s capability. I may have misunderstood your statement, but there must be no standard in my way of life. Otherwise, it defeats the purpose.
We can only imagine an ideal relationship because anything that is influenced by an outside force (the relative) has a tendency to cause a rift between the connection. Again, happiness is only attainable in solitude.
The perfect art that portrayed such ideology would be a Korean movie called Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter… and Spring. I had to mention it because my sister reminded me of the movie earlier. I saw the movie a few years back and it’s very powerful.
That’s what I meant. Society has standards and we’re expected to go by them.
I think I get what you’re saying about happiness. Personally, I would prefer companionship, if the “right” person happens to come along.
society dictates the norms, have this double standards, pros and cons, etc. Well relationshp, commitment are all state of mind – once you try to find their meaning it defeats the essence what happiness really is. A basta yun na yun!
We all think that who we have now is the right person until the day they become otherwise. I think that companionship is a subtle form of lust hehehe.
I disagree about the relationship as a state of mind because it is physically evident. You commit to each other (may it be written or not) and with that commitment comes boundaries.
When you tend to have a commitment you also put your self with boundaries. I may debunk what alfonso had stated that ‘society is a network running in a system’ i think it is figuratively preferred as… A society is a system running in a network. Because people set standards and it is a system which runs thru their network-and thats their environment. Life has nothing to do with relationship, commitment, whatsoeverchuvaloo :D only people who set standards for these, i mean life is not directly relative to relationship, commitment, love etc, i can make my life as simply as good without them,e sila will do they exist kung walang ng buhay. Oops wag paniwalaan tamang trip ko lang.Hahaha
Ideally speaking, what you said is true because there is no mob without an individual (a tangent to existential philosophy). Realistically speaking, we know that’s not correct because we open our eyes in the midst of society. My goal actually is to be outside society (makes me sound anti-social) as an individual; a singular entity. What binds you to society are emotions.
I tip my hat to you sir. I am going to quote these words for the rest of my life.
