Electric Future

July 13th, 2008

My fellow CCNY alumnus, Andy Grove, wrote in The American about the future of energy in the United States. There he suggested that America ought to head towards the direction of electric fuel because America’s “exposure to the vagaries of oil supply is growing by the month.” I agree that we must make haste the transition from petroleum to electric fuel, but there’s one problem.

There is one big problem with vehicles fueled solely by electricity and that is the reloading. Electric cars can reach about 100 miles before their batteries need to be recharged. The recharge, unlike petroleum, takes time. That is the problem with electric power reload. That would be the main obstacle that engineers will be facing and are probably facing right now.

meron akong naisip na solusyon, although this thing is obviuosly not my turf. paano kaya kung magbenta ng pre charge na mga batteries, yung tipong isasalpak na lang kung malobat. parang cellphone na may extrang battery. hehe. pacenxia sa kabobohan. pero isa lang ang masasabi ko dyan, necessity is the mother of all invention, sana makahanap ng solusyon kasi hindi lang naman amerika ang naapektuhan , pati dito sa pinas, sobrang hirap din. kulang na lang bumalik na sa karetela ang mga tao. i like this kind of post, yung tipong world concern. :-D

Don’t apologize, I’m not an expert either. That’s a viable solution, but it still does not solve the problem. What if the pre-charged battery is not fully charged because there’s no way of checking while you’re in an “electric station”. We already have battery powered cars here, but they’re hybrid (dual fuel).

I can’t really see Philippines going this direction because we already know the capability of our energy department. They need to solve the brownouts first before going this way. That’s why they went the LPG way which is having price hikes recently. We have plenty of petroleum reserve in the Philippines, we just need to open it and make sure the corrupt officials are hands off of it. I know an energy expert who served FVR before, but I won’t drag him here. It’ll become a big issue hehe.

I think I post too much of world concern in this site. Mostly metaphysical hehe

Na-imagine ko lang po na kapag naubos yung oil yung mga tao babalik na lang sa pagtatanim ng mga kung anu ano para makakain sila. hehehe kaweirduhan. Let’s hope makacatch up ang technology sa dwindling source of oil.

Petroleum is not the only source of energy and there are plenty of petroleum in the world. It’s not going to go away. It’s world politics that is the problem and my aggressive solution actually is colonize Saudi Arabia and the whole Middle East Asia. The European Union should bond muscle with the United States and do this.

    Enough with diplomacy.

That is why I can’t be a politician.

Anong it won’t go away maybe not in the near future but it would eventually the rate people are consuming it. Petroleum is a non-renewable resource. Kawawa naman US nagpeak na ang supply nila nung 70s, I think, according sa ilang nabasa ko. I know it’s not the only source pero malaki yung dependency ng modern way of living natin sa oil.

Tama bang attitude yan hmmm Golden Boy? hahaha. Actually impression ko talaga to sa mga Americans. Mataas ang kanilang sense of entitlement.

US has untapped petroleum reserved. Peaking supply in the 70s is again political. The US has enough reserve to supply the whole country for centuries. Petroleum is a chemical compound, so it can always be produced.

I’m a huge fan of America because as a country, they’ve done everything right (it was a colony before) and I think they deserve entitlement… It’s a superpower for cryin’ out loud.

Ohh, and odn’t get me started on the European Uniopn hehe.
