A Simple Life

A few days ago I was watching Wish Ko Lang from GMA Pinoy TV wherein they covered the life of an old couple living in an island in Surigao. It is a small island and only the couple live there. They have the whole ocean providing them food. WKL covered this couple’s life because to them, these people live without electricity in a house without a dining table making them very unfortunate. I was at awe. This is exactly the life I dream of. Far away from the chaotic society living the simplest form of living one can imagine.

One might say that it is not an easy task catching fish for food, but it’s not like the couple don’t know how to catch fish or cook food. They lived their whole lives together in that island and I’m pretty damn sure they have encountered life threatening experiences and survived.

I’m not a beach person, so I might not fit in that situation, but the point is living detached from society, yet still living healthy is quite a setup. If I am to live alone deep in the mountains, far away from people, abundant in food, then it would be paradise. They say “no man is an island.” I somewhat disagree with that because with self control, one can live by himself peacefully without worries. Nick Hornby justified the phrase in his book About A Boy saying that no man really is an island because even islands are connected underneath the ocean. It may be a story I look up to, but I disagree.

If You Want Me

Are you really here or am I dreaming
I can’t tell dreams from truth
For it’s been so long since I have seen you
I can hardly remember your face anymore
When I get really lonely and the distance calls its only silence
I think of you smiling with pride in your eyes a lover that sighs

If you want me satisfy me
If you want me satisfy me

Are you really sure that you believe me
When others say I lie
I wonder if you could ever despise me
You know I really try
To be a better one to satisfy you for you’re everything to me
And I do what you ask me
If you let me be free

If you want me satisfy me
If you want me satisfy me

If you want me satisfy me
If you want me satisfy me

WD MyBook WE NFS Enabled

Eee PC comes with XandrOS distro of Linux, therefore the way I access my network files is different than when I’m using Windows. Fortunately, there is a system called the Network File System (NFS). First generation of WD Netcenter are NFS enabled, but my recent acquisition — the MyBook World Edition — is not NFS enabled. Therefore I have to do the dirty work before I can access my audio/video files from my half-terabyte hard drive. The following are the steps I went through before successfully accomplishing the task:

  1. SSH Access in MyBook WE
  2. MyBook WE as NFS Server
  3. Mount the path:
 mount mybook_ip:/shares/internal /mnt -o rw

That’s all folks!

Falling Slowly

I don’t know you
But I want you
All the more for that
Words fall through me
And always fool me
And I can’t react
And games that never amount
To more than they’re meant
Will play themselves out

Changes

Someone told me that thinking too much and most especially deep thoughts causes my inability to gain weight. The person didn’t even know that it is my hobby to think deeply about things around us. Now, in an attempt to gain a few pounds and flesh, I’m trying not to think deeply besides from eating proper food regularly and having regular sleeping hours. It may be a yearlong struggle, but I will do my best.

In addition, few changes personally will be undertaken in the upcoming year. Though not strictly, a more discipline me will arise. I’ll try to learn more things and not slack on projects I’m assigning myself. I will try to save for a major project that I’m planning and will also document here once the plan is finalized. More importantly I guess than saving is to fid a way to earn which in itself is a huge udertaking I will have to face. I hope to geet a second paying job even though it’s only part-time.

Could this qualify as a New Year’s Resolution? I tend to not fulfill NYRs, so I’ll admit this isn’t it. This is more of a personal challenge more than anything else. I’ve already fufilled the first step which is to personally detach myself to anyone. By detaching myself, I can have no excuses and be more concentrated on the task at hand.

ASUS Eee PC

eeepc ASUS Eee PCI finally decided to purchase an Eee PC instead of getting a Wii. I realized that I won’t be playing a video game in my free time that much and  really need a small notebook wherever I go. I know I’ve said countless times that  don’t want a laptop to carry around, but this baby is so lightweight and small that it feels like I’m carrying an actual binded notebook. Though it doesn’t have that much disk space, it has all the software I need for mobile computing including the WiFi.

I have the 4G so it also comes with a webcam. Pretty cool gadget and I must say this has to be one of the est I’ve ever spent my bucks for. I have yet to adjust with the keyboard, but I don’t expect to type faster here.

I still have to play around with the unit to get what I expected it to provide me. So, I will be posting Eee PC related discoveries in the future for my reference and for others also.

*photos coming soon*
