MTV Generation

Does MTV deserves a spot in my blog? Well, I guess it does. Every year, the time I spend watching the VMAs shortens. I confess, I haven’t seen all the VMAs, but this year’s show must have been the worst of all. It is hosted by Chris Rock, to start with. No one can host a terrible party, but the corniest comedian in the planet. Secondly, is the VMA becoming a flea market or what? Even Iggy Pop is now selling his upcoming album. VMA is place where losers from The Grammys win, meaning, good music is no longer acknowledged. I thinked I’ve watched more presentations tonight than actually hearing music in the show because everytime they announce the winner I’m already in another channel watching Steven Seagal kicks ass. The only musicians in the show are the members of Coldplay who really represented the few (the talented).

Did VMA ruin my day? Hell no! My cousin emailed me tonight asking my thoughts on a musician that I’ve never heard of before called Viena Teng. After listening to a few samples off her album, I was immediately hooked. I’m off to Borders tomorrow to buy the album. She has a beautiful voices and her music is really moving. It’s orchestral, yet it rocks!

Funeral Blues

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead,
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last for ever; I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood,
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

-W. H. Auden

Keira Knightley

keira Keira Knightley The first time I saw Keira was in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Disney premiere. A month before, I’ve heard of an early putdown of the movie and I kind of agree to that Virginian DJ. If I was to see the movie, it’s because of Keira, and as simple as that, I did. Aside from seeing a wonderful movie, I also came out of the theater thinking of nobody, but Keira. Believe it or not, my attraction to her began after seeing her fingers. There wasn’t too much display of her beautiful face in the first fifteen minutes in the movie. She has beautiful fingernails.

The attraction did not develop simply because she has beautiful fingernails. During research, something very spectacular came up. I happened to be three years her senior — that’s 1095 days. We share the same birthday. Any fanatic would agree with me that they are special if they share a birthday with someone the adore.

Aside from Pirates…, Keira also starred in Princess of Thieves and Bend It Like Beckham.

Resurrection

“Music is the vernacular of the human soul.” - Geoffrey Latham

After listening to Travis again, inspirations came like a snap of my fingers. I’m suddenly urged to write something, may it be nonsense or not. It’s not just Travis, everytime I listen to a song and it syncs with the mood I’m in, I become intellectual, or so I thought.

Recently, I bought a 15GB iPod and I’ve been filling it up with my music collection. It is a tedious job ripping CDs to mp3s using CDEx because I follow a certain format for the filenames. Previously, I deleted all the tags that CDEx autamatically writes using id3kill. Now, I’m tagging everything so that iPod can organize the songs a lot better. Though it is a luxury to use MusicMatch 7.5, I still have to tag every single song to change the mood, tempo and other attributes after adding lyrics to them. I’m planning to do one artist a day, but I usually refrain from plans.

Since I’m adding lyrics and other attributions, I am indulged to listen to each song while singing along. When I sing along without the lyrics in front of me, nothing actually comes into my head, but the melody. So, while reading the lyrics to Travis’ songs, I realized that they’re talking of things that I often think of. For instance, these two lines from “Side”: we all live under the same sky/we all will live we all will die. They obviously are, personally, one of the greatest things since slice of bread.

This morning, I went to see Gigli (pronounced jēlyē), it rhymes with “really.” Plot-wise, a terrible movie. However, I like the way the story was told. Intellectual conversations, a usual Affleck flick, are present, but it was strange watching Lopez deliver such words of wisdom. Also, her make-up didn’t seem to cover her unattractive face; a great bod nonetheless. I recommend waiting for it to come out on Blockbuster nearest you.
